Benedict needs Heart Surgery

At the age of two, Benedict was diagnosed on October 22, 2018 at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) with a large Atrial Septal Defect with Right Ventricular Hypertrophy. His parents tried everything to raise money for heart surgery, but to no avail. His father had given up when he got a call from Omosede Global Foundation to assist. Benedict had been placed on our list by Dr. Wilson Sadoh his treating physician at UBTH.

It seemed like a joke, until the family was invited by the Foundation for a meeting on April 24, 2019, to discuss the possibility of getting heart surgery at the National Hospital in Abuja. At the meeting Benedict and his parents met three other families needing heart surgeries for their child.

The Foundation started a support group, informing the families that team work and support for each other was the best way to achieve our goals. Instructions were given and forms provided to be completed giving the Foundation the permission to take their children to Abuja for heart surgery.

At age three, on Sunday, May 26, 2019, Benedict and his mother left Benin City for Abuja along with three other children and their parent, and Omololu Ojehomon and Kingsley Ohens (volunteer) of Omosede Global Foundation to Abuja. We arrived Abuja late evening. His father joined us in Abuja same day.

On Monday, May 27, 2019 Benedict was screened by the surgeon and cleared for surgery. On Tuesday, May 28, 2019 Benedict was admitted in the National Hospital, Abuja for open heart surgery.

On Friday, May 31, 2019 the surgeon did one last check on Benedict before his surgery and found that he had an infection which will not clear on time before the Mission concluded, his surgery was postponed.  No other surgeries were done before the surgeon left.

Benedict was placed on priority list for the next surgery date. He will be going for his open heart surgery on November 22, 2019 at the National Hospital, Abuja. The team left Abuja with the families on Sunday, June 2, 2019,
